Addis Ababa: A mortar attack allegedly carried out by the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has been reported in the Aradu area of Megale Woreda in Zone 2 (Kilbati Rasu) of Ethiopia’s Afar region, according to local sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Witnesses told Horn Frequency that the mortar rounds landed near positions occupied by Afar regional security forces. The extent of casualties or damage was not immediately clear, but residents said the incident caused panic among communities in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although Afar regional security forces, including anti-riot units, are stationed in the locality where the attack occurred, witnesses said no immediate counteroffensive was launched following the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local sources said similar attacks have been reported in recent months. They recalled that two civilians were reportedly killed in a previous incident.
