MSF Reports Sharp Rise in War-Related Injuries in Northern Ethiopia

Addis Ababa: Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) reported that the number of people injured and admitted to hospitals in Korem and Alamata rose from 180 to 420 between Sept. 22 and 25, amid escalating fighting between federal forces and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).

MSF also said 300 war related patients had been recorded at Suhul Hospital in Shire, in northwestern Tigray.

In its latest report, MSF described the situation in northern Ethiopia as worrisome amid renewed large-scale fighting between federal forces and the TPLF.

As the fighting escalates, MSF said it is preparing to respond to the needs of displaced people in the Amhara, Afar and Tigray regions.

Following the announcement of the alliance, tensions have risen in northern and northeastern Ethiopia, particularly in Tigray, Afar and Amhara. Multiple drone strikes have also been reported along the Amhara-Tigray border and in parts of Tigray.
