MOGADISHU: Somalia’s federal government is reportedly plotting to oust the Jubaland administration over its refusal to allow the deployment of Egyptian forces in the region, according to multiple sources who spoke to The Horn Frequency.

Sources said a delegation organized by intelligence chief Mahad Salad traveled to Dolow, in Gedo region, but was turned back after Jubaland authorities refused to let them stay. The delegation included Gen. Salah Abdullahi, commander of Somalia’s ground forces, and a deputy from the National Intelligence and Security Agency.

The team’s mission was to identify a site for an Egyptian military base and prepare for the deployment of Turkish-trained Somali commando units. Jubaland officials have strongly opposed the plan, escalating tensions in the area.

With Jubaland bordering both Ethiopia and Kenya, Kenyan forces are reportedly on high alert for potential instability. Their increased presence has kept Balad Hawo relatively calm.

Ethiopia’s position remains unclear, though its defense forces are said to be maintaining a high state of readiness.

The latest tension follows Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s visit to Addis Ababa, where he held talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on bilateral issues.
