The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement welcoming a new U.S. initiative aimed at securing a cessation of hostilities in Sudan at the start of 2026. The statement said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed remarks by his U.S. counterpart, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, calling for an immediate ceasefire and improved humanitarian access in the country.
According to the communiqué, ensuring an immediate cessation of hostilities and expanding humanitarian assistance remain top priorities in Sudan, the UAE said. The Emirates also announced its readiness to work with the U.S.-led Quad to help advance peace efforts in the country.
However, multiple reports have indicated that the UAE has been deeply involved in the Sudan conflict, including allegations that it has backed the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). In addition, the European Union has reportedly reconsidered aspects of its trade relationship with the UAE over concerns related to arms transfers linked to the Sudan war.
