Edmonton : The government of Cambodia has ordered African nationals residing in the country on expired visas or temporary arrangements to leave before May 31, according to an official statement.
The directive specifically mentioned immigrants from Kenya, Ghana, Cameroon and Uganda.
Cambodian authorities warned that foreigners remaining in the country after June 1, 2026 could face up to two years in prison, an $8,000 fine and deportation. Police are expected to begin nationwide operations targeting visa overstayers and undocumented foreigners, who would then be handed over to immigration authorities, the statement said.
According to reports by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Cambodia has become a significant transit and destination country linked to cybercrime syndicates, human trafficking and illegal migration networks.
Cambodian authorities have previously deported more than 13,000 foreign nationals to 66 countries as part of crackdowns on illegal immigration and cybercrime operations.
The latest order is expected to trigger another wave of deportations and voluntary departures from the country.
