U.S. Moves to Step In as Sudan’s Crisis Worsens

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced his administration’s commitment to intervene in Sudan’s deepening crisis, pledging to help end the ongoing conflict he described as “the most violent situation on Earth.” Trump emphasized the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe.

High level discussions are reportedly underway between the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and other Middle Eastern countries. According to Trump, Washington’s renewed engagement was prompted by a request from the Saudi Crown Prince during his recent state visit to the U.S.

Sudan’s conflict, now in its third year, has killed thousands and displaced millions internally, while forcing large numbers of civilians to flee to neighboring countries. The recent capture of El Fasher in western Sudan by Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fighters allegedly backed by the UAE has drawn global outrage amid reports of egregious human rights violations.

The UAE’s Ambassador to the UN, Mohamed Abushahab, has rejected the accusations, saying Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) officials are spreading false and baseless claims about Emirati involvement.

For months, analysts and regional observers have accused the UAE of providing support to RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), effectively fueling the conflict. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently expressed concern over Sudan’s escalating violence and stressed the need to halt the flow of weapons reaching the RSF, though he stopped short of naming the foreign power allegedly supplying the arms.
